"Power glows like amber, delicate as glass and twice as sharp. The Amber Kiss can make gods of mortals—or ghosts."
Alchemist Fraelyn, on the 14th day of the Mistwoven Moon
"It is the Convergence embodied—a flower that binds us to the Mirror's allure, whispering promises of greatness while concealing the scars of our ancestors’ sins."
Lament of the Lost, Book of Fractured Paths, Chapter VII
Basic Information:
The Amber Kiss is an extremely rare, fragile, crystalline flower that shimmers with an otherworldly amber glow, blooming only in regions where the Veil between the Mirror and the real world is perilously thin.
This occurs most frequently in the Conjunctions and the domains of the Markhalyr, where the Veil is involuntarily weakened by their presence and sightings of Amber Kiss are less uncommon.
The flower embodies the potency and peril of the Mirror’s influence. It’s petals and pistils, when carefully crushed and heated, produce fumes that, when inhaled, greatly enhance spellcasting capabilities. Yet, this power comes at a cost. The effects are addictive, and prolonged inhalation fosters dependence. Additionally, each use exposes the caster to a higher risk of Veil backlash, which can unleash unpredictable—and often catastrophic—effects.
However, the enchantment does not come without a price. Prolonged use risks severe addiction, and each inhalation increases the chance of magical backlash and Veil instability, causing spells to spiral unpredictably or tear at the fragile fabric of reality itself.
Some Markhalyr clans have taken advantage of this occurrence, cautiously harvesting and trading it as an arcane commodity. However, due to the plant’s rarity and the moral ambiguity of its distribution, Amber Kiss remains a prized and expensive resource, even in Markhalyr markets.
Breath of the Gods:
- When crushed and heated, Amber Kiss produces fumes that sharpen spellcasting ability, expanding control and potency over magic temporarily.
- However, the addiction risk is high, and prolonged exposure leaves users craving its effects, deteriorating both their health and mental state.
- Many spellcasters who succumb to its lure eventually become haunted by veil anomalies or suffer physical decay as their bodies weaken from the strain.
Veil-Rending Potential:
- The flower’s fumes not only enhance magic but also create an unstable connection with the Mirror and further strain the Veil around the Weaver, risking catastrophic Veil backlashes and breaches.
- Cautionary tales tell of Conjunctions consumed in Veil breaches after excessive use, leaving behind fractured lands and twisted creatures altered by the Mirror’s touch.
