The Campfire Stories:

During moments of roleplay between characters, during long travels, when sitting around a campfire, or when enjoying a hearty meal, your characters could (and should) take the chance to get to know each other better. And maybe learn a thing or two about themselves in the process.

This list is in no way comprehensive but can act as a great starting point.


The Questions:

  1. If your character had not been drawn into adventure, what would their life look like?


  2. Whom in the group would your character trust with their life?


  3. What are your character’s core moral principles?


  4. How does your character relate to their family?


  5. Does your character hold any prejudices for or against certain races/groups?


  6. How does your character feel about nobility and authority?


  7. Describe your character’s current appearance: clothing, armor, weapons, scars, etc.


  8. Which place you’ve visited so far felt the most like “home” to your character?


  9. Which deity or deities does your character primarily worship?


  10. If your character had time to pick up a hobby (musical instrument, game, craft, etc.), what would it be?


  11. Describe your character’s current relationship with the character of the player on your right.


  12. What is your character’s current personal goal, summarized in one sentence?


  13. What are your character’s dreams for the future? (Family, craft, world domination, cabin in the woods, farm, etc.)


  14. Has your character ever been in love? If not, why? If so, with whom?


  15. Which battle in the campaign stands out most in your character’s memory?


  16. Which non-combat experience in the campaign is most memorable to your character?


  17. If your character could swap out all their skills, what would they choose instead?


  18. Which season does your character like best?


  19. Where in the world does your character most want to visit?


  20. What was your character’s biggest mistake?


  21. Does your character have any visible scars? If so, what is their story?


  22. Which animal best represents your character?


  23. If your character could travel to the past and change one detail, what would it be?


  24. With which other character or NPC does your character feel the most kinship?


  25. Does your character regret any decisions the group has made?


  26. What would your character consider their best quality?


  27. What would your character consider their greatest weakness?


  28. What is your character’s greatest fear? Whether real or irrational.


  29. What motivates your character to remain part of the group right now?


  30. What are your character’s hobbies and interests?


  31. What would most people likely think upon first meeting your character?


  32. What most unsettles your character? (Aspects of themselves, future, black cats?)


  33. What does your character admire and despise most about the character of the player on your left?


  34. How would you “in character” explain your character’s lowest attribute?


  35. What would a perfect evening in a tavern look like for your character?


  36. How would your character describe themselves in a few sentences?


  37. Which item that they own is most important to your character?


  38. Is there a special item or object that your character is determined to find?


  39. What does your character believe is the meaning of life?


  40. Describe one or more small habits of your character.


  41. What was your character’s last or most frequent nightmare?


  42. What are your character’s views on: the Church of Sigmar/Witch Hunters/Electors/Mage Orders?


  43. Describe your character’s childhood. Where and how did they grow up? (Friends, family, class, location, etc.)


  44. Which aspect of their future most excites your character’s curiosity?


  45. Which colors best represent your character?


  46. Which member of the group or NPC would your character save if they had to choose?


  47. What drives your character most? Honor and glory, gold, power?


  48. If your character could make one wish, selfish or selfless, small or large, what would it be?


  49. What is your character’s stance on secrets within the group?


  50. Which creature in the world makes your character the most curious?


  51. What did your character think their life would look like when they were a child?


  52. What would it take for your character to betray the group?


  53. Does your character value their own interests or the interests of the group more?


  54. What would the group need to do for your character to disgustedly renounce them?


  55. How does your character envision their own death? Hopeful and realistic perspectives.


  56. What is your character’s greatest achievement?


  57. Is your character willing to endanger others to achieve their goals/the goals of the group?


  58. How does your character feel about killing?


  59. What is your character’s favorite food and drink?


  60. How generous is your character, especially towards strangers?


  61. What does your character envy the most about a member of the group?


  62. The other players’ characters tell your character different versions of a story; who does your character believe, and why?


  63. What small thing can most easily irritate your character?


  64. Describe how your character feels about the group’s current goal and situation.


  65. To whom in the group would your character be most likely to confide an important secret?


  66. How would your character spend their time if they had only one month left to live?


  67. In what situations does your character feel safe?


  68. How does your character imagine a perfect evening by a campfire in the forest?


  69. How does your character envision a perfect evening?


  70. If your character could name the group, what would it be?


  71. What memory does your character most strongly try to forget?


  72. What skills would your character like to master?


  73. How does your character feel about giving and receiving orders?


  74. What does your character’s name represent to them (or why did you choose the name)?


  75. How far would your character go for the common good? Do they believe in a common good?


  76. How does your character want to be remembered after death?


  77. What would your character study at the University of Altdorf or Nuln?


  78. Does your character consider themselves a good Elf/Human/Dwarf/Halfling/Ogre?


  79. What secret pleasure or vice does your character indulge in?


  80. What are your character’s opinions or hopes for life after death?


  81. What is your character’s greatest weakness?


  82. What is most important to your character: health, wealth, or happiness?


  83. What advice would your character give to their younger self?


  84. Are there societal or political issues that your character feels strongly about?


  85. Name something the group doesn’t yet know about your character.


  86. Describe the last genuine, heartfelt laugh your character had.


  87. Describe something your character seeks to improve about themselves.


  88. Does your character have a nickname? If so, what is it, and who calls them that and why?


  89. Describe a childhood friend of your character.


  90. Describe a childhood rival.


  91. Is your character afraid of what lies ahead for the group?


  92. The group spends a few quiet days with no time pressure; what does your character do?


  93. Describe a moment in your character’s life when they felt like a hero.


  94. Describe a moment in your character’s life when they felt like a villain.


  95. Describe your character’s education.


  96. How would your character handle a disobedient servant/employee/slave?


  97. How would your character’s parents describe them?


  98. Name everyday jobs your character would enjoy.


  99. What would be the worst curse that could befall your character?


  100. What does your character do to relax?


  101. What is currently in your character’s pockets and jacket?


  102. What were evenings like in your character’s parental home?


  103. If your character received a gold coin and a day in their childhood, what would they do?


  104. What do you think is the most annoying habit of your character in the eyes of others?


  105. If one of the other characters mutated, would you seek a way to reverse it or take final steps?


  106. A god offers you a gift of your choice; what do you choose?


  107. Someone spreads lies and rumors about your character, and it continues even after a verbal confrontation. How does your character react?


  108. How does your character remember their first encounter with death?


  109. What does the first half hour of your character’s day look like?


  110. What does the last half hour of your character’s day look like?


  111. After a day of shopping in the city, your character finds that an arrogant blacksmith overcharged them, and a warm-hearted tailor undercharged. How do they respond?


  112. Would your character attend the executions of a confessed murderer and a questionably guilty cultist? Why or why not?


  113. Your character owns an old, decorative key. What does it open?


  114. What was the profession of your character’s parents?

  116. In a village, a well-dressed person comes running to your character screaming for help, pursued by an angry mob. How does your character respond?


  117. You are passing through and spend a few days in a town with no ties except for a few fleeting acquaintances. The town is suddenly attacked by an army. What does your character do?


  118. If the day were six hours longer, how would your character use it?


  119. If your character found a magical book containing all the knowledge of the universe, what would they look up first?
