Before the time of mortals, even before the gods, the Primordials created reality, the universe, and matter. The Primordials represent chaotic, incomprehensible, vague concepts and aspects of reality and the immaterium. When the still young gods finally grew strong and saw the endless possibilities of the universe, they became greedy, jealous, and filled with fear, sparking an unrelenting, endless, brutal war for supremacy. Eventually, the gods decided to pour all their negative emotions and destructive aspects into one being, a vessel. The son of “She Who Weeps” and the “Burning Judge,” young, strong, full of potential, became the weapon that turned the tide of the war. The gods ultimately won, but they were too weak to kill their creation. Instead, they wounded and bound him. To this day, the Bound God sleeps in chains, in agony, full of hatred, eternally struggling, ever ready to break his bonds and annihilate the universe.
Symbolism:
The Bound One is most often depicted as a titanic figure of immense power and anguish, chained and bloodied. With muscles strained against heavy, rusted and cracked bonds that appear to dig into his flesh.
His eyes are often shown as glowing embers or hollow pits of darkness and flames, depending on the region, full of hatred, rage and the unyielding will to destroy even as his body lies motionless. His face is usually obscured by shadows or scars, his mouth frozen in an eternally screaming grimace of rage. His muscular form is etched with runic marks—symbols of the divine power used to imprison him.
His prison is depicted as a crumbling, nightmarish landscape—cracked earth, blackened skies, and distant, wailing shadows—reflecting the destructive force he embodies.
Artists frequently portray his agony in excruciating detail, with chains crafted from twisted vines, jagged stone, or infernal metal, each link reinforced by the will of the gods who imprisoned him. Shadows curl around him like smoke, and cracks across his skin reveal a seething, chaotic energy underneath, as though he is ready to explode from within his restraints.
Holy Symbol:
- A pair of broken chains, often depicted mid-shatter, symbolizing his endless struggle to escape his bindings and his desire to break all restraints imposed upon him.
Holy Color:
- Deep Crimson, the color of blood, fury, and agony, symbolizing the violent nature of his existence and the destruction he would bring if ever freed.
- This hue is used sparingly in art, often in small accents or hidden details, as it’s believed to be a harbinger of violence and misfortune.
Holy Number:
- Seven, a cursed number associated with destruction and the unknowable. It represents his war against divine forces and the endless struggle he embodies.
- In some traditions, it is said that if he breaks seven chains, he will be freed to bring the end of all things
Holy Animal/Beast:
- The Chimera, symbolizing the unnatural amalgamation of different aspects forced upon The Bound One by the other gods. Each part of the Chimera embodies a different facet of destruction, chaos, and the duality of power—reflecting how he was forged as a weapon against the Primordials.
- The Hydra, representing the idea of unrelenting chaos and the perpetual cycle of destruction. Every time one of its heads is severed, two more grow in its place, mirroring The Bound One’s eternal struggle against the chains that bind him.
